I wish to object strongly to any future plans to build on the NO4 site and include in the Hastings Plan. In 2007 when it was on the list as a proposed Travellers site, arguments against building on this site included the effect on local wildlife - badgers and reptiles, the loss of trees (subject to TPOs), it is a site of archaeological interest, proximity to local housing and road access onto a very busy main road which already has problems with vehicles turning onto/off the Ridge in that area.

This should be retained as open space. The ridge is already overdeveloped considering it functions as a ring rad for Hastings. High density building in this area would impact on the views from the St Helens Wood nature reserve, negatively impacting on the living environment of the area.

My immediate reaction is more traffic on the Ridge circa 120 cars. This is on top of the traffic that will emanate from the Hurst court development - which presumably will proceed first PLUS the traffic from the Bexhill Link road. However, I cannot be a NIMBY and after all Brown sites are developed I would not object to a development of say 40 houses with a "village green" area and a play area for youngsters -not available in the area - and it would save them crossing a busy road as long as the road access to the site is satisfactory

1. Extra children will need school places in classrooms all ready overfull.
2. delopment will require water supplies in an area currently subject to hose pipe bans.
3. Is it planned to include a GP surgery within the 80 buldings?
4. Access to the site will be from "the ridge" which is heavily used especially in the rush hours. Should the link road go ahead the ridge will become a similar blockage like Bexhill road. Further traffic from development will add to existing problems.
5. The site is brown belt and no more open areas like this should be lost.

Four years ago Hastings Council proposed a transit gypsy camp on this site. I understand it was refused in part due to poor access afforded to the six units that were proposed. As there has been no change to the road layout or route since then, it is difficult to imagine how access to the site could have possibly improved sufficiently to cater for 80 houses. Is it HBC's intention to single-handedly drive away the residents of Sandrock Park? First gypsies, then a radio mast and now 80 houses. What next? A Sangatte type illegal immigrant camp? Thanks very much!

I am opposed to building on this site because I think any more building along the ridge will mean an impossible amount of traffic which the road cannot cope with. Apart from the inconvenience of the inevitable gridlock, there is danger caused by emergency vehicles (which customarily use the ridge) being unable to reach their destinations.

This site should remain OUTSIDE the development boundary. It would be crazy to site such a large development here (80 units), particularly if Hurst Court is also developed.Apart from landscaping issues, it's near a dangerous road bend, and would add to an already increased traffic load on The Ridge due to the decision to construct the HBLR )Hastings-Bexhill Link Road). Also, more people= more pressure on infrastucture -health/education services etc. (already stretched in this area).

I believe there is sufficient potential capacity elsewhere in the vicinity to provide additional residential units.
This site should be retained for general recreational use in accordance with Government's objectives of retaining and improving open spaces, sports and recreational facilities.

Dangerous access, pedestrians put in danger due to size of footpath along the Ridge. Additional traffic near emergency services and schools. School children will be put in danger because of current footpath on Ridge. Protected insect and mammals. Foxes and badgers dens and habitat. Consent of new bypass could double traffic along Ridge.

Your document states that "the site is currently outside of the built-up area boundary...there is a presumption against residential development".
There is no reason or justification to change its designation; any residential development would present insurmountable problems in the immediate area and beyond without any chance of mitigating its negative impact.

There has been gross overdevelopment along The Ridge in recent years which has led to a considerable reduction in the quality of life for the residents who live there, or nearby. The new Link Road will greatly increase traffic and further impinge on the quality of life.
Plot N04 is on what is arguably the most dangerous corner in Hasitngs, recognised by the police who mount speed checks there. Any plan to put a housing estate here, with access onto The Ridge, is impractical and dangerous both for users of the estate and for other users of The Ridge.

The Ridge is already overcrowded with new building projects such as flats & new housing. It has 3 schools & one large hospital along its stretch & in my opinion, & all the people I know living in this area, we certainly do not need another housing estate being built to conjest the area even more than it is now. This area in St Helens is a beautiful natural area & should remain so. Local people use it as a place to relax & chill out. Leave our natural areas alone. Once it is built on, it is ruined forever.

There has been excessive overdevelopment along The Ridge which has led to considerable reduction in the quality of life for the residents of The Ridge and those nearby as well as commuters using the road. The new Link Road will greatly increase traffic and pollution, further impinging on the quality of life for residents and commuters alike.

This site is totally unsuitable for development due to access and egress issues on the Ridge, exisiting traffic volumes and over capacity. Peak time delays exist already which will be exacerbated by the Link Road joining more traffic to The Ridge and also more traffic from developments that already have planning permission at Hurst Court, Osborne House and Hastings Cottage plus this proposed development which The Ridge cannot accommodate.
There is a shortage of water in the South East and also flora/fauna/ecological issues including japanese knotweed making the site unsuitable for development.

The roads ie. Ridge and A21 will be congested at all times with most families having two cars.
The water supply is sadly at a low at the moment. Any more homes will make it worse affecting residents of the area. It will change our way of life as our aim is to keep Hastings as we like it.
Until these problems are resolved the building should be delayed.

The area's an oasis of natural beauty and tranquillity which is appreciated by local residents who often walk through this area. It's one of the only areas of woodland left on The Ridge and it's home to wildlife and greenery.
It will cause The Ridge to be even busier than it is currently and will increase the congestion greatly and there isn't any easy access to this plot of land.
Along with site A21 this is going to cause a total of 120 houses to be built in a small area and this will cause the area to be extremely over developed.

I would strongly object to this site being for residential development. In the area of St Helens there is limited recreational areas for children growing up in this community. To build residential accomodation on this site would be dangerous due to the location and the already very busy road.

We also consider bearing in mind the fact at circa 85,000 Hastings, as indeed the whole of the British Isles, is grossly overpopulated. Councils therefore should not entertain any further development, instead concentrating on the improvement and utilisation of existing properties.

Planning Focus areas 1(Little Ridge/Ashdown);4(St Helens) and 11(Hillcrest/Ore Valley). This is a possible approx 972 residential units. This does not include the current back garden developments etc being considered/in progress. If you lump these together with the current applications on The Ridge, that is a considerable number of extra cars. This will increase with the Link Road and my concerns are the amount of units being proposed with the continued approval for backgarden developments.Large areas of natural land are currently being considered which bring a huge amount of pleasure to the local residents.

We feel that over the years there has been a gross over development of any available site on The Ridge and this has led to a noted reduction in the quality of life for the residents. We make this objection in the knowledge that the development of the Hastings/Bexhill link road will increase the traffic and further impinge on the quality of life of these residents. The increase proposed would put another 200 dwellings on The Ridge this is on top of the 200 plus already built or granted permission over the last 10 years.

I wish to object to any development on land adjacent to Sandrock Park the ridge (N04) there has been gross over development along the ridge. The new link road will greatly increase traffic and become the next Bexhill Rd. Trying to catch a bus on the east bound side in the morning with a stick at the top of Elphinstone Rd is a nightmare. Why do we need to build on green sites?

The new link road will greatly increase traffic which will further impinge on the quality of life for the residents.

This development if allowed to go ahead will cause more problems for the Ridge as this corner and part of the Ridge is considered to be the most dangerous corner in Hastings.

Turn the land into allotments which would be most beneficial to the people of Hastings.

Traffic density during certain parts of the day is becoming intolerable. It is extremely difficult to get into the traffic flow from side roads. This will get worse with the opening of industrial areas on Queensway and the development of Hastings Cottage and the site adjacent to Stonestile Lane.

Better use is some additional parking/lay-by to be provided for the sports ground.

Parking by the church is also hazardous causing problems around the junction with Chowns Hill, and obstructing the Ridge. An additional lay-by for the church would [of] benefit.

The sharp corner by Stonestile lane is a dangerous junction.

NO4 we feel this site should not be included for development. It is an important green space and could be used again for playing fields as previously. It is potentially an important historic site as suggested by the bend in the Ridge and is or should be an area of archaeological interest. A thorough archaeological survey and assessment should be undertaken before and development was considered

The development will add to the volume of traffic along the Ridge. As congestion increases we are concerned that traffic on the Ridge heading to the A259 or in the opposite direction will cease to use the B&Q junction and use the lanes to join/leave the A259 at the Butchers Lane junction
