Development Management Plan Focused Consultation 6th July - 17th Aug 2012
Representation ID: 5203

Ore Community Land Trust representation returned opposing any development of the Upper Ore Valley, also known as Speckled Wood, support for option C, but preference for all the land to be protected including the part with planning permission. Support for the aims of Ore Community Land Trust that the whole area should be redesignated as protected green space and enhanced for community use and protection of wildlife habitat.
The area is rich in wildlife, we do not wish to see their habitat destroyed.
The local infrastructure cannot sustain more housing, it will have a detrimental effect on already over-stretched services.
The Upper Ore Valley - 'Speckled Wood' (A01 and A30) Options for Protecting Areas of Land
We oppose the development of the Upper Ore Valley, which is also called 'Speckled Wood'. Of the three options proposed in the consultation, we support option C which would protect all the land in the Upper Ore Valley that does not have planning consent.
However, I would prefer to see the area of land next to Victoria Avenue also protected even though it has planning permission. The area is rich in wildlife, including bats, badgers, slow worms, sparrow hawk and an owl which are regular visitors to our cottage garden and we do not wish to see their habitat destroyed by needless over development.
We support the aims of Ore Community Land Trust that the whole area should be redesignated as protected green space and enhanced for community use and protection of wildlife habitat. The surrounding built up area is densely populated and there are no other accessible green spaces for leisure or chlidren's play to comply with the Hastings Borough Council policy aim - 90% of households should have access to green space within 300 metres of their home by 2013.
The valley is a wooded and steeply sided ghyll and should have been included in the Council's Parks and Open Spaces Strategy. The woodland and footpaths have been used by local people of all ages for very many years.
The valley is entirely unsuitable for development due to the steep sides and restrictions to road access onto the very busy Old London Road. The local infrastructure cannot sustain more housing, it will have a detrimental effect on the already over stretched services and the increase in noise and pollution will be intolerable.

It is a haven for wildlife. If this area is developed it will increase traffic which already is of concern and will add to current difficulties experienced in volume and speeding.

Speckled Wood is under threat from developers, speculators and your local Council.

They have worked alongside the Ore Valley Trust to give options A, B, C for the future development plans of the Upper Ore Valley, Speckled Wood (previously known as the 'Ola', Holla, Holler, Hollow). Each one of these options entails development of Speckled Wood to a greater or lesser degree.
On the 16th of August 2012 the consultation period ends and no further discussion will be heard.
The Friends of Speckled Wood want a fourth option of no development in the woodland. This has been refused by Ore Valley trust and by the Local Authorities consultation. This offers a fantastic opportunity for the council to demonstrate "a child's right to play" as enshrined in law under the children's act is something that the council supports and takes seriously.

The people who live in the area should be consulted and given the choice of having no development - we are losing all the green space in this area.
