The preferred option to have retail as the town's main aim seems unrealistic when the town only has 180 degree of hinterland to draw people from. With the rise of internet, retail has changed too dramatically to make Hastings this type of destination. Where as the fact that 180 degree of hinterland is sea would be a more realistic pull. This could only work if the town develops places to go, things to do, an events calendar that pulls people in without excluding residents.
The Secretarty of State has thrown back several LDFs as local characteristics have not been considered. Hastings does not need to become a retail clone town. Do the town's officers & councillors not have enough vision to look past this short sighted materialistic view to our millenium of history & make a play for an existing worldwide marketing brand of 1066, which could go with it?
