CPRE Sussex would oppose any further development in this area as it represents an important ecological and enviropnmental lung in an otherwise highly urbanised area. It is home to substantial elements of flora and fauna and must be protected.

I enjoy visiting these woods and they are a haven for wildlife. It would be a great loss to Hastings if this development went ahead.

Please keep this lovely area development free so that we can continue to walk our dogs along the many footpaths within this woodland,my husband and family members can continue watching the animals and birds within, there is nothing better than waking up and listening to the dawn chorus, much better than listening to residents in the proposed blocks of flats arguing or the whole site being cleared then left for years like much of the Millennium development further down the Ore valley
I oppose the development of the Speckled Wood Area.

Ore Community Land Trust representation returned opposing any development of the Upper Ore Valley, also known as Speckled Wood, support for option C, but preference for all the land to be protected including the part with planning permission. Support for the aims of Ore Community Land Trust that the whole area should be redesignated as protected green space and enhanced for community use and protection of wildlife habitat.
The Upper Ore Valley - 'Speckled Wood' (A01 and A30) Options for Protecting Areas of Land
We oppose the development of the Upper Ore Valley, which is also called 'Speckled Wood'. Of the three options proposed in the consultation, we support option C which would protect all the land in the Upper Ore Valley that does not have planning consent. However, we would prefer to see the area of land next to Victoria Avenue also protected even though it has planning permission.
We support the aims of Ore Community Land Trust that the whole area should be redesignated as protected green space and enhanced for community use and protection of wildlife habitat.
The surrounding built up area is densely populated and there are no other accessible green spaces for leisure or chlidren's play to comply with the Hastings Borough Council policy aim - 90% of households should have access to green space within 300 metres of their home by 2013.
The valley is a wooded and steeply sided ghyll and should have been included in the Council's Parks and Open Spaces Strategy. The woodland and footpaths have been used by local people of all ages for very many years. Our children need familiarity with nature, wildlife, exploring....
The valley is entirely unsuitable for development due to the steep sides and restrictions to road access onto the very busy Old London Road.
We have previously commented on the Management Plan but wish to record our views on "Speckled Wood" specifically here.

Friends of Speckled Wood representation returned opposing any housing development in Speckled Wood. Options A, B & C consulted by the Council allow development to a greater or lesser degree. The Friends of Speckled Wood request a fourth option of no development in the woodland.
Comments: Build in Kent - not Hastings.
Speckled Wood is under threat from developers, speculators and your local Council.
Hastings Borough Council's planning department is currently operating a consultation on the future of Speckled Wood. The Local Development Framework details options A, B or C for the future development plans of the Upper Ore Valley's Speckled Wood (previously known as the 'Ola', Holla, Holler, Hollow). Each one of these options allows development of Speckled Wood to a greater or lesser degree.
On the 16th of August 2012 the consultation period ends and no further discussion will be heard.
The Friends of Speckled Wood want a fourth option of no development in the woodland. This has been denied in the local authority's consultation. The Friends of Speckled Wood believes this is not democratic and as the government believes in Localism, the choice should be with the people from the local area.
Do you oppose any housing development in Speckled Wood: Yes √ Comments: Build in Kent - not Hastings.

Has the implications to the wildlife been considered especially protected species such as Slow worms, badgers and bats. what about the nature deficit disorder that the government is pushing so taking away yet another green area in an already built up area will be adding to more future problems. This is not private land it is owned by the people of hastings and should be presrved for them. I oppose the development of the Speckled Wood Area.

Comments: the whole of Speckled Wood (The Hollow) should be developed as an open area of walks, cycle paths, play parks for children (of all ages) including adults, seating. When my children were young they used to play for hours in (The Hollow) with friends. We also used to go blackberry picking as a family. We need all this for residents of Ore.
