What do we want to do?
We want high quality, energy efficient and affordable homes that are well located, near shops, schools and services.
How will we do this?
Strategic Policy 2 (SP2): New and Affordable Housing: Sets out how much new housing should be delivered over the plan period, and who it should be for.
Development Management policies supporting SP2 are:
- Policy H1: Specialist Housing for Older People: Sets out expectations for older peoples housing, including where care and support is provided onsite.
- Policy H2: Shared Housing: Sets out expectations for shared housing, excluding care homes, children’s homes and halls of residence.
- Policy H3: Conversion of Existing Dwellings: Sets out expectations for converting one home into two or more homes.
- Policy H4: Self Build and Custom Housebuilding: Sets out expectations for self-builds and community-led housing.
- Policy H5: Accommodation for Traveller Communities: Sets out expectations for traveller sites.
- Policy H6: Housing Renewal: Sets out expectations for housing renewal schemes to ensure that they represent an improvement.
- Policy H7: Temporary Residential Uses: Sets out expectations for safe, secure, supported and high-quality temporary homes as a meanwhile use.
Where will new homes be delivered?
Site Allocations (Part 6 of the Plan) starting with HS are sites where homes can be expected to be delivered. Development Potential Areas and Regeneration Areas (Part 5 of the Plan) are areas of the town that may be able to deliver homes during the plan period if certain conditions are met.
