Representation Summary:

The proposals for this site are too dense. Fewer high quality housing with gardens and some of this site to remain as an open space public area. We do not want any more flats in Hastings. Families with young children need a safe area to play and all too frequently these new developments ignore this imporant feature.

Representation Summary:

The dwelling densty is too high and may kead to the preservation of High density flats as well as increasing the traffic desnity of the Ridge which is already overstretched and is a vital road for accessing the hospital and getting from one side of town to the other. Traffic capacity will only increase if the link road goes ahead. Therefore suggest a net capacity of 70 dwellings with some green space retained.

This site should be OUTSIDE the development boundary. A huge development of 170 units would be disastrous in terms of loss of green space and generation of motor traffic in an area that will already see a huge increase in traffic because of the decision to construct the Hastings-Bexhill Link Road. More air pollution. Also, a huge amount of open space has already been lost in this area over the last 25 years due to the massive Little Ridge development: it's time to stop.

A 31 Holmhurst St Mary.
The area around the statue of Ann should be protected and be open to the public and conditions imposed for restoration of the statue thats on BAR register. The burial area should be protected and be open for public access. This site deserves high quality low rise houses that fit into existing buildings in the area.

The development will add to the volume of traffic along the Ridge. As congestion increases we are concerned that traffic on the Ridge heading to the A259 or in the opposite direction will cease to use the B&Q junction and use the lanes to join/leave the A259 at the Butchers Lane junction

In conjunction with other sites in Planning Focus Areas 1; 4 and 11 development is for a possible 972 residential units, with approx 258 residential units being on the Ridge. That is a considerable number of extra cars accessing and exiting a very busy road. My concerns are the amount of units being proposed and the continued approval for back garden developments.

Maplehurst Wood SSSI-was in an unfavourable condition at the last review.

The unfavourable condition of the SSSI appears to relate to the recreational disturbance.

The development of a significant number of homes some 200m from the SSSI presents the risk of further detrimental impact

I understand that a number of partners are working with the private owner of the wood to improve management of the site and overcome the issues for the SSSI. Funding for mitigation work arising from local development may be appropriate.

The site may also be sensitive to air quality and water issues

One can only surmise that green spaces can even be considered for development is because it is cheaper and easier than really sorting out existing unsuitable housing and brown field sites. To put it starkly, it suits too many pockets to make the quick buck. I can see areas on the new Shaping Hastings Plan which exactly illustrate this. Green spaces should be kept as such locally. Planning too far ahead can be a danger. I would like to see any development along The Ridge vetoed e.g.

Little Ridge-&-Ashdown and Filsham-&-Bulverhythe are closely located to the A21 and A259 respectively and have been targeted for significant amounts of residential and employment development. It is important therefore, that development within these areas come forward with associated sustainable transport infrastructure to reduce the need to travel by car and the impact on the SRN.

Should these sites be carried forward to the next consultation stage it will be necessary to show how their impact will be mitigated. This is also true with large development sites in Filsham-&-Bulverhythe which are likely to generate traffic on the A259 west of Bexhill.

Focus areas 1 and 4 propose a total of 520 residences all requiring direct access onto the already heavily congested Ridge Road. This is ludicrous. With the projected increase arising from traffic using the new link road, there will be traffic congestion on a similar scale to that existing on the present A259 route from the western entrance to Hastings.
No further building of residential property should be permitted until a satisfactory solution has been made to the A21 problem.
