This approach has no synergy and does not meet Sustainability Appraisal objectives (contrary to the claim). It also lacks reference to the relationship between the town centre and central seafront. The approach should aim to:
Protect and enhance the architectural heritage - particularly in the conservation area
improve the relationship between the town centre and the central seafront
tackle key dilapidated buildings e.g. Observer Building, White Rock Baths and Pier
Encourage vitality, diversity and niche specialisms in the retail and leisure offer
Improve existing housing stock and quality of life for town centre residents
Reduce the domination of town centre road traffic and be more pedestrian friendly
Stimulate seafront leisure activity and commit to building Pelham Boulevard by 2010
