ALL sites should required ecological assessments. Too many times planning applications have been passed with either no ecological assessment or cursory assessments. Even then often officers discount professional reports if these reports do not equate with what THEY wish to hear. There is strong evidence of cruelty to badgers during the course of development when ecology conditions are ignored.The borough ecologist needs to ensure that these conditions are adhered to - not just walk away once planning consent has been granted. The role of the borough ecologist needs a clarified definition.
