Objective 5 - Lively Attractive Seafront

Achieve the sustainable and increased use of the seafront by ensuring it has a range of day-long, year-round activities and facilities that attract residents, workers and visitors. Ensure that young people in particular are able to engage in a range of healthy seafront and beach side leisure activities that discourage drinking and anti-social behaviour. Critical success factors are:
* deliver Pelham Boulevard by 2011
* secure a sustainable future for the pier and White Rock Baths by 2011
* provide beachside volleyball, showers, play parks, paddling pools, new beach huts and franchises for refreshment kiosks and beach goods sale/hire by 2009
* provide areas where young people can skateboard for spectators benefit
* provide quality attractive amenity lighting that ensure night-time safety
* provide quality public art and landscaping
* remove unattractive kerbside railings and reduce seafront road speeds to 20mph
* remove dedicated car parks on sea and replace with chevron parking
