I oppose any housing development in the Speckled Wood area. I wish to see the Development Management Plan changed.
I am a ranger for the National Trust and I immediately recognised on a visit to the area on 26/3/14 that the Speckled Wood area has huge potential as a wildlife and educational resource especially in an urban area. An Environmental Impact Assessment should be carried out before any housing development is considered. I believe that the area should be designated a Local Nature Reserve at the very least and this green space should be saved for the future generations.

I have lived in School Road for almost 50 years and have suffered as a result of new houses and flats being built, despite objections, nobody listens. Solle Mews is an eyesore and has made parking a major problem in School and Sandown Road. Already too many cars in the area and we need to preserve woodland like this, that I remember exploring and playing in as a child.

The Friends of Speckled Wood want a fourth option of no development in the woodland. Recently at the Planning Committee an outline application was granted for 34 houses and flats at Victoria Avenue, a motion that Speckled Wood should remain undeveloped was defeated by the casting vote of the Committee Chair. The Friends believe this is not democratic as other land owners were not consulted. The Government believes in Localism. The choice should be with the people from the local area.

To lose another unique piece of valuable woodland in an already well developed area is criminal, not just for the flora and fauna, but for the local residents including the children, that can learn so much about the natural world. More houses in that over crowded area, would make Ore such a horrible and unattractive place to live. There are a no. trees with TPO's in Speckled Wood. There is also a fresh water stream running through. There is an abundance of wildlife. My husband and I have just spent an amazing afternoon walking in Speckled Wood. It was lovely to hear the birds. We also saw other walkers enjoying the afternoon. We saw dog walkers and children playing.
