People in Hastings and Ore need green space, both for physical health (walking & exercise), mental health, an educational space for schools & local children's groups and to maintain biodiversity. Hastings has many empty buildings such as disused shops on Queen's Rd and Bohemia Rd that are a blight on the local area and will never be used for business again and could be converted into housing rather than develop a woodland site.

There should be fourth option of no development in the woodland. Recently at the Planning Committee an outline application was granted for 34 houses and flats at Victoria Avenue, a motion that Speckled Wood should remain undeveloped was defeated by the casting vote of the Chair. This does not seem democratic as other land owners were not consulted. This area is important to local people, and as an important site for the speckled wood butterfly, its important to all of us.

Local people should be able to decide whether there should be development to land that makes their quality of life worthwhile. Speckled Wood should not be zoned for housing. The infrastructure of Ore is insufficient. There is already severe congestion on the A259 and Mount Pleasant Road which will increase should this development go ahead. I regularly visit Hastings for the exact reason London has so few green spaces left. A friend of mine in Hastings alerted me to this shocking and unwelcome development.
