Described by locals as a nature reserve this beautiful woodland is used by families, dog walkers and children. In 2012 there were 1321 objections to building-this shouldn't be allowed when there are many other unused sites. There are wild/extremely rare plant species that will be lost. The endless circle of planning since 1940 should stop-you the Inspector is the only person left who can change this, remove this woodland from the DMP once and for all and stop this negative process.

I feel very strongly to say that I would like Speckled Wood removed from the DMP. Speckled Wood should remain as it is. This is a local nature reserve as described by the locals that live here in Ore. It is beautiful woodland used by many families, dog walkers, and children. I use this woodland daily, as do many others. Why build on this lovely area when there is a perfectly good site ideal for building houses on at the old hospital site, which already has a road through it as well as services laid on. We have already sent out 1321 objections to building in Speckled Wood 2012. This should not be allowed in our Nature Reserve when there are many other sites available to build on which are not being used. Our children use this woodland to learn. There is no other area that can do this safely. There are wild and extremely rare plant species that will all be lost forever. The one land owner of this land has also made it all too obvious in my opinion that he wants to sell the site and maximise his money.
I believe this endless circle of granting planning since 1940 should stop this does not improve the area allowing planning to be granted then rejected then granted. All this serves to do is tie up land so that it cannot be improved. This has to stop you the Inspector is the only person left who can change this endless process. Since 2012 the Trust FOSWMT has made good on its management plan it presented to Cabinet 2012, cleaning up the woodland and increasing the worth of the land, please give it back to the people my father and my fathers father have all played here as children going back over a century, children play here today, give the children the woodland they are our future. Remove this woodland from the development management process once and for all and stop this negative process.

Many people have spent a lot of time making the woods a safe and fun place. It would be a huge shame to unnecessarily destroy this wildlife habitat. It would be very difficult to build in the woodland. It is a very deep valley with a river running through it, that is prone to flooding. It would cost a huge amount of money to build properties that could be built on the site along Frederick Road that has remained undeveloped.

I oppose any building on the Speckled Wood. I have lived in Greville Road all my life and have grown up playing and exploring the woods. As a Childcare student and future teacher I understand the educational value of the woods to children's development. Many people have spent a lot of time developing the woods to make it a safe and fun place to walk around. Living next to the woods I have experienced a wide variety of wildlife that live in it (as they come into my garden and eat our vegetables!) and I believe it would be a huge shame to have their natural habitat unnecessarily destroyed. Being in the woods many times I believe it would be very difficult to build on as it is a very deep valley with a river running through it, that is prone to flooding. It would cost a huge amount of money to build properties that could be built on the already free and desolate site along Frederick Road between Deepdene Gardens and Farley Bank that had been empty and undeveloped for many years.

I support the Friends of Speckled Wood fourth option of no development in the Woodland. At a recent Planning Committee a motion to oppose an outline scheme at Victoria Avenue and that the whole of Speckled Wood should remain undeveloped was moved. The motion was defeated and outline planning permission granted. The Friends of Speckled Wood believes this is not democratic as other land owners were not consulted. The choice should be with the people from the local area.

Recently at the Planning Committee where an outline application to develop the Victoria Avenue site for 34 houses and flats was considered, Cllr Wincott moved a motion to oppose the development, saying that the whole of Speckled Wood should remain undeveloped. His proposal was supported by Cllr Rogers and Scott, but opposed by Cllrs Daniel, Finch and Martin. As Cllr Daniel was the Chair, the motion was defeated with his casting vote. this meant that outline planning permission for the scheme was granted. The Friends of Speckled Wood beleives this is not democratic as other land owners were not consulted. The Government believes in Localism. The choice should be with the people from the local area.
