It is essential that areas like this are left alone for children to enjoy a natural environment and educate themselves with the beauty of such special spaces.

As a part time volunteer at Speckled Wood last year, helping to rid the place of the rubbish that had been dumped there, I became aware of a very special area. Once the rubbish had been cleared it was apparent that it was a beautiful little glade which was used as a short cut for people two and froing from school, home, shopping etc. Also it is an area for children and adults alike to meet and play and appreciate beauty and diverse wildlife that has chosen the woods as its home. There are few areas like this in townscapes due to the ever increasing over development of land for housing etc. It is essential that areas like this are left alone for children to enjoy a natural environment and educate themselves with the beauty and freedom of such special spaces. Where they can learn to respect nature and have a natural healthy playground to explore. Children today have been robbed of that kind of place to grow and develop. The woods have been used in the summer for exciting fun play projects which have been.

What I find surprising us that anybody would want to develop on this site. Its totally unlevel and quite steep banks in place. There is a stream running through it and therefore could present damp and flooding risks. Its full of Japanese Knot Weed, which as we know is impossible to get rid of and should be disposed of with approval and knowledge of the local environment agency. Other than that it's a beautiful little glade where community projects take place. Children use it a cut through to school and a meeting and playground. Leave it as it is and find somewhere less expensive for the building project that are being planned. Who are those houses for actually? Do we want or need to attract people to a town where there is no employment for those who already live here, or infrastructure to support our ever growing community? Leave some natural land for the heritage and future of our children and their children please. A drainage area also for all the concrete surrounding the little wood.

It would tidy the town up and also put the beautiful buildings back in play. I feel woodland will have more community benefit than further housing. I also feel there are certainly brown field sites and renovations that should be considered. Trees are vital for a healthy environment including ours, woodland can also provide a place of celebration and education. In Ore Village speckled Wood is our only remaining green space. I believe if we loose it, it's us that will feel the loss.
