I oppose any housing development in the Speckled Wood area. I wish to see the Development Management Plan changed.
I feel woodland will have more community benefit than further housing. I also feel there are certainly brown field sites and renovations that should be considered. Trees are vital for a healthy environment including ours, woodland can also provide a place of celebration and education. In Ore Village speckled Wood is our only remaining green space. I believe if we loose it, it's us that will feel the loss.

Destruction of natural habitats for housing is a national issue as it leads to further car use, pollution and removes areas that are needed for people to live healthily. I loved that fact that Hastings has so many woods throughout the built up areas including the town centre making it a healthy place to live with low levels of pollution. Climate change is real saving areas of woodland in urban areas will ensure healthy and safe places for the future.

The decision shouldn't just be made by people in the local area as destruction of natural habitats for housing building is a national issue as it leads to further car use, pollution and removes areas that are needed for people to live healthily. As a resident of Hastings for 11 years I loved that fact that Hastings has so many woods throughout the built up areas including the town centre. This makes it a healthy place to live with low levels of pollution which could be used as an advertisement to encourage people to live and holiday in Hastings. I much preferred living in Hastings than Brighton for this very reason: every spare inch of Brighton has been built on. Speckled Wood should not be developed. Local services are already stretched and there's no natural green space in Ore other than Speckled Wood. Rather than seeking to develop the land the local authority should be working with residents and the green infrastructure experts such as the Wildlife Trust to improve/restore the woods, to improve access and to use the site for recreation and education. Developing urban woodland is a backward looking approach that reflects a lack of imagination and optimism.

The Hollow, as I knew it as a child is a haven for wildlife, a green lung and an area for the enjoyment of local residents. I spent my childhood exploring these woods and enjoying the fun of being outdoors. No part of it should be sacrificed for short term development greed, creating yet another urban scar on the landscape.

Some quick research on the internet shows that not only is the woodland home to much wildlife, but has a number of trees with protection orders on them. From my home in Frederick Rd, I regularly see foxes, badgers and a variety of birds. This woodland has been there since 1778, build on it and all you'll have is the extra Council taxes each year, once its gone, its gone. Be known as the people that saved it, not destroyed it!
