The valley is a wooded and steeply sided ghyll and should have been included in the Council's Parks and Open Spaces Strategy. The woodland and footpaths have been used by local people of all ages for very many years.

I/we oppose the development of the Upper Ore Valley, which is also called 'Speckled Wood'. Of the three options proposed in the consultation, I/we support option C which would protect all the land in the Upper Ore Valley that does not have planning consent. However, I/we would prefer to see the area of land next to Victoria Avenue also protected even though it has planning permission. The site has planning permission which was recently renewed. No development has taken place. Almost undevelopable site.

The site should be upgraded to a site of special scientific interest and listed on the local nature reserves and designated as Old Roar Gill. The area of option C is in multi ownership and has much used footpaths (unregistered) and no development has taken place since original designation. Large japanese knotweed infestation. The area is deficient in open space (also Clive vale) Policy OS2. A tree preservation order covers most of the site. The planning permission for Victoria Avenue should not be renewed in future due to the quality and content of the proposed development and the inability to access the site from Victoria Avenue due to steepness and the poor soil etc.

Please let us be sensible. Green spaces are a treasure, good for wildlife and humans. Old woodland, large ancient trees, if you destroy these, your legacy will be concrete not conservation.
