What do we want to do?
We want to grow the local economy, with a focus on creative, high-tech, green, and manufacturing industries operating out of energy-efficient workspaces. We want to make sure that local people have access to education and training to help them find work in the town.
We also want to make sure we have vibrant Town Centres where people can live, work, shop and socialise and make sure the visitor economy can grow to secure Hastings’ future as a cultural and tourism destination hub.
How will we do this?
- Strategic Policy 3 (SP3): Business Development – Office and Industrial: Sets out how much workspace should be delivered over the plan period and where this should happen.
- Strategic Policy 4 (SP4): Business Development – Town Centres: Sets out how the town, district and local centres should grow and change during the plan period to better serve the local community.
Development Management policies supporting SP3 and SP4 are:
- Policy E1: Protecting and Enhancing Employment sites, areas and allocations: Sets out expectations for the development of workspaces and mixed-use workspace/ residential development.
- Policy E2: Skills, Employment and Supply Chain: Sets out expectations for development to support new skills and find materials and tradespeople to deliver construction from within the local area.
