Representation Summary:

I think we should keep all our green space as green space, we do not need more housing as there are thousands of houses in East Sussex that are empty. We are killing off our natural oxygen supplies, if we continue to build more houses.
I want to speak for the trees and the wildlife because they have no voice
(Please use the same objections as from my comment form of the Focussed Consultation).
Entered at request: HOW CAN WE NOT CONSERVE THIS FABULOUS RARE PIECE OF WOODLAND - WE HAVE HARDLY ANY GREEN SPACE LEFT - WE NEED PLACES LIKE THIS TO HELP MAKE OXYGEN FOR US TO BREATHE AND LIVE - HAVE PEOPLE GONE MAD - HOUSES OR DEVELOPMENTS WILL BE OF NO USE IF THERE IS NO ONE LEFT TO LIVE IN THEM -I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE COUNCIL OR A TRUST BUY ALL OF THIS LAND AND RECONNECT IT AS ONE PIECE TO SAFEGUARD IT AND INVEST TIME AND MONEY INTO IT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO COME - WE HAVE ENOUGH HOUSES IN THAT AREA :INDEED TOO MANY ALREADY IN CLOSE CONFINEMENT -THERE ARE ENOUGH HOUSES IN THE SOUTH EAST TO HOUSE THE HOMELESS TIMES AGAIN - THE LAND IN UK ONLY USES 15% FOR HOUSING-THIS ISSUE NEEDS ADDRESSING - WE ALSO NEED TO CONSERVE THE AREA FOR THE WOODLAND INHABITANTS - WE ARE NOT OWNERS OF THE LAND BUT MERE TENANTS -ALSO THE DRAINAGE VALUES OF THIS SITE ARE UNDERVALUED !

I would prefer to see the 3 areas identified for development also included in the Local Green Space area. This would allow the whole of the woodland valley to remain in its current form.

I support the proposal to designate the area of land in the Upper Ore Valley (Speckled Wood) as Local Green Space, as this is a welcome step towards the campaign to protect the whole of Speckled Wood. I would prefer to see the 3 areas identified for development also included in the Local Green Space area. This would allow the whole of the woodland valley to remain in its current form. Over 1,300 people signed a petition to save Speckled Wood in July last year. A great opportunity.
Please do not allow this wonderful green space to vanish for ever.

Representation Summary:

Designating site CV01 is unsound because it is a contradiction to the designation of the rest of Speckled Wood as a local green space (HN8). A substantial number of local residents want the wood to be enhanced and kept for the local community. Developing CV01 will have a detrimental effect on this space for people and wildlife.

Representation Summary:

This area should not be designated for housing development for the following reasons (although it has current planning provision). 1) It is entirely unsuitable for development as it is, in effect, a ravine at the top of |Upper Ore Valley and would be prohibitively expensive to develop - needing a sloping causeway for access. 2) It is the wildest part of the woodland valley and should be left as animal habitat. 3) It is almost certain that it will never be developed and merely used for land speculation. 4) It seriously damages the integrity of the woodland valley.

Whilst we support the proposal to designate an area of land in the Upper Ore Valley, we would like areas CV01, CV03 and CV04 to be included as possible LNR or Local Green Space status (Speckled Wood). We are currently working with other community groups and HBC to achieve this aim. The Wood is used by many local residents and school groups due to its unique biodiversity and wildlife habitat. Overwhelming support from over 1300 local residents is also key to promoting the whole of this ghyllside valley for future residents to enjoy.

Speckled Wood is a piece of countryside in a built up area. Its loss woulde be a tragedy for both humans and wild creatures. I have memories of blackberrying there with my grandfather and also using the adjacent play area - long gone. The footpaths are well used and it is a joy to be away from traffic noise. Also a section of the proposed Hastings Greenway route is planned to pass through the wood.

The wood is already being used by local people who use the footpaths and enjoy the peace of the woodland and the stream that runs through it. It would be marvellous to be able to provide a village green for Ore Village together with a children's play space, and a section of the route for the planned Hastings Greenway from the town centre to Ore.
