The deletion of this proposed allocation will secure a safe future for this valued community asset. A specific status should be granted to this site: e.g. Local Nature Reserve/Local Wildlife Site.

I have written about Speckled Wood before and so has my neighbour but we feel we are wasting time. We do not want houses built in the valley. We want it kept for wildlife. The thought of building opposite my house is appalling. I expect the people in Greville Road feel the same. My neighbour has lived in the avenue all her life and played in the woods when small. I have seen the last of the houses knocked down in Church Street and seen trees only ever since. So keep it that way.

I agree with the Inspector's decision regarding deletion of MM8 and MM9 from housing allocation in the Plan. I feel that the developers of each site will try to make a case with expert advice for the inclusion of these sites. So I have highlighted the many reasons why the site should not be developed. See attached.

Representation Summary:

We support the proposed modification MM9 and think it is justified as road access would be extremely dangerous due to the volume of traffic and very poor visibility at the junction with Old London Road. This will preserve the integrity of the woodland valley, provide the Trust with the opportunity to acquire the whole of Speckled Wood to make it into a well-managed community woodland. This in turn will enable funding to be sought to create the Ore Village Green, to re-establish the disused allotments, to help to construct the Greenway route and to provide other amenities and disabled access.

I am the owner of the land. This land was allocated for development for some thirty years. I have bought 28 separate plots and paid £1.5 million. Due to general economic condition and down turn in the property market, after purchasing I was unable to develop. If I was allowed to develop, I intend to use a part of the land for development and the remaining of the land for public access as open space/ recreational facility. This is a private land. Don't force me or expect me to give the land for free.

Representation Summary:

The land behind Old London Road east between Ashburnham Road and Old London Road is this the allotment land that Mr Hollox is referring to? It used to be nurtured by the Railwaymen in past times. As allotment land it is very good and there is a shortage of allotment land and the waiting lists will grow as the Town population grows. I feel that the Inspector has not given proper attention to this area of land with its unique history.

I am very pleased that Speckled Wood appears likely to be completely protected as a public (and wildlife) amenity. Just want to express my pleasure, and appreciation that the Council is frequently pulled in different directions due to demands for more housing, plus the risk of being sued by landowners, etc. I hope that land off Victoria Avenue can also be kept for the enjoyment of all, and that things can be squared with the landowner (who seems to have been trying to sell the land). One of the glories of Hastings is the amount of greenery amongst the housing.

I am very pleased to read that Speckled Wood in Ore appears likely to be completely protected as a public (and wildlife) amenity. Just want to express my pleasure, and my appreciation that the Council is frequently pulled in different directions due to demands for more housing from Westminster, plus the risk of being sued by landowners, etc. I hope that that last bit of land off Victoria Avenue can also be kept for the enjoyment of all, and that things can be squared with the landowner (who seems to have been trying to sell the land for more than eight months). One of the glories of Hastings is the amount of greenery amongst the housing - the little wild bits. Went for a walk in Speckled Wood on Tuesday and it was full of birds. I'm glad that it's going to remain that way.

THERE IS WASTELAND, UNUSED GROUND/BUILDINGS THAT CAN BE USED TO RE-BUILD NEW HOMES. THERE IS NO NEED TO DESTROY NATURAL WOODLAND TO BUILD NEW HOMES!

BUILD ON SPARE UNUSED WASTELAND. DESTROY NATURE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!

THOSE PERSONS THAT AUTHORISE THE DESTRUCTION OF NATURAL LAND, WOODLAND OR MEADOWS VIA CORRUPTION TO MAKE SOME QUICK MONEY, WILL OF COURSE SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE.

UNFORTUNATELY, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!

I AM ALL FOR MODERNISATION, CHANGE AND NEW BUILDS, BUT NOT ON LAND SUCH AS SPECKLED WOOD. THE RECENT NEW BUILDS ON THE RIDGE IN HASTINGS ARE WONDERFUL, AS THEY HAVE UTILISED THE SAME GROUND THAT PREVIOUSLY HAD BUILDINGS.

PLEASE DO NOT BUILD ON/IN SPECKLED WOOD!

Environmental needs should take priority to the need for more houses. Houses are built & then residents complain about badgers & foxes messing their gardens. Excuse me who was there first !! Leave the area for the wildlife & for people who enjoy walking in the woods please.

Please leave us this little bit of woodland. There is enough Brown site land in Hastings that should be redeveloped and abandoned properties that should be bought back into use before you start cutting down our lovely wood causing further hardship to the local wildlife.

The area is sacred to us all, "developing" this place is contrary to the everyone's choice. any further building would make the area unpleasant for the current inhabitants. I object strongly to this destruction to my environment.

Please don't build on this lovely wooded site, I'm sure there are plenty of other brown field sites to consider, why would anyone want to ruin our green spaces inhabited by wildlife, and replace them with concrete boxes inhabited by people, there are other options, use them!

I am strongly in support of the proposed modifications as this will ensure that almost all of Speckled Wood will be protected from development. This woodland valley is very important to me and to local residents of Ore and the redesignation of the land will provide an opportunity for community use to be firmly established and allow for woodland management to improve and enhance the whole area.

I do not believe that the developers have any intention of building on the land and in any case the land next to Victoria Avenue is entirely unsuitable for any form of development. This alteration to the Development Management Plan will preserve the integrity of the green space in the valley.
