The deletion of the proposed allocation of land at Victoria Avenue (CV01) will secure a safe future for this valued community asset. A specific status should be granted to this site: eg. Local Nature Reserve/Local Wildlife Site.

I have written about Speckled Wood before and so has my neighbour but we feel we are wasting time. We do not want houses built in the valley. We want it kept for wildlife. The thought of building opposite my house is appalling. I expect the people in Greville Road feel the same. My neighbour has lived in the avenue all her life and played in the woods when small. I have seen the last of the houses knocked down in Church Street and seen trees only ever since. So keep it that way.

I agree with the Inspector's decision regarding deletion of MM8 and MM9 from housing allocation in the Plan. I feel that the developers of each site will try to make a case with expert advice for the inclusion of these sites. So I have highlighted the many reasons why the site should not be developed. See attached.

Representation Summary:

We strongly support of the proposed modification MM8 as it will ensure that almost all of Speckled Wood will be protected from development and provide an opportunity for community use to be firmly established and allow for woodland management to improve and enhance the whole area. The site should not have been allocated for housing or given planning permission in the first place as it is in effect a ravine with extremely unstable land. Current developer interest in the site is speculative and I see no prospect for the site to be developed for economic and practical reasons.

As recently, six months ago, the adjacent site at Ore Valley, Victoria Avenue after Careful Consideration of the environmental factor, the planning permission was granted (subject to 106 Agreement). After granting permission, how come you say that this land is not suitable for development due to environmental factor? What really happened within six months?

Representation Summary:

The area designated as CVO1 is a little confusing as is on its own not two hectares in size, to comply with all the surrounding Housing development needs and to comply with the 300m criterion. Because of the dense surrounding developments with yet more being built populations of wild animals have found the valley their last safe refuge, the Ore Stream is still a source of fresh water and valuable breeding ground for our protected native newts and amphibians. The necessary arrangements for long term survival, safe foraging areas and hibernation sites must be allowed for.

I am very pleased that Speckled Wood appears likely to be completely protected as a public (and wildlife) amenity. Just want to express my pleasure, and appreciation that the Council is frequently pulled in different directions due to demands for more housing, plus the risk of being sued by landowners, etc. I hope that land off Victoria Avenue can also be kept for the enjoyment of all, and that things can be squared with the landowner (who seems to have been trying to sell the land). One of the glories of Hastings is the amount of greenery amongst the housing.

I am very pleased to read that Speckled Wood in Ore appears likely to be completely protected as a public (and wildlife) amenity. Just want to express my pleasure, and my appreciation that the Council is frequently pulled in different directions due to demands for more housing from Westminster, plus the risk of being sued by landowners, etc. I hope that that last bit of land off Victoria Avenue can also be kept for the enjoyment of all, and that things can be squared with the landowner (who seems to have been trying to sell the land for more than eight months). One of the glories of Hastings is the amount of greenery amongst the housing - the little wild bits. Went for a walk in Speckled Wood on Tuesday and it was full of birds. I'm glad that it's going to remain that way.

Representation Summary:

The DMP is positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy and it is sound without MM8. The Council has reconciled competing sustainability objectives of meeting important local needs for housing and to deliver wider environmental benefits, whilst providing open space at the southern end of the former housing allocation. The SA into MM8 clearly shows the Modification has a neutral impact and therefore cannot make an unsound plan sound. The Inspector has been misinformed about the extent of public access onto CV01 and that there is no opportunity to deliver open space on CV01 without the landowner's co-operation.

THERE IS WASTELAND, UNUSED GROUND/BUILDINGS THAT CAN BE USED TO RE-BUILD NEW HOMES. THERE IS NO NEED TO DESTROY NATURAL WOODLAND TO BUILD NEW HOMES!

BUILD ON SPARE UNUSED WASTELAND. DESTROY NATURE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!

THOSE PERSONS THAT AUTHORISE THE DESTRUCTION OF NATURAL LAND, WOODLAND OR MEADOWS VIA CORRUPTION TO MAKE SOME QUICK MONEY, WILL OF COURSE SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE.

UNFORTUNATELY, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!

I AM ALL FOR MODERNISATION, CHANGE AND NEW BUILDS, BUT NOT ON LAND SUCH AS SPECKLED WOOD. THE RECENT NEW BUILDS ON THE RIDGE IN HASTINGS ARE WONDERFUL, AS THEY HAVE UTILISED THE SAME GROUND THAT PREVIOUSLY HAD BUILDINGS.

PLEASE DO NOT BUILD ON/IN SPECKLED WOOD!

Please leave us this little bit of woodland. There is enough Brown site land in Hastings that should be redeveloped and abandoned properties that should be bought back into use before you start cutting down our lovely wood causing further hardship to the local wildlife.

Please don't build on this lovely wooded site, I'm sure there are plenty of other brown field sites to consider, why would anyone want to ruin our green spaces inhabited by wildlife, and replace them with concrete boxes inhabited by people, there are other options, use them!

I am strongly in support of the proposed modifications as this will ensure that almost all of Speckled Wood will be protected from development. This woodland valley is very important to me and to local residents of Ore and the redesignation of the land will provide an opportunity for community use to be firmly established and allow for woodland management to improve and enhance the whole area.

The land next to Victoria Avenue is entirely unsuitable for any form of development. This alteration to the Development Management Plan will preserve the integrity of the green space in the valley.
