Representation Summary:

I live in southwater road and have done for 10 years. I am opposing this application as it is evident from other multi-storey developments in the area that not only do they look unsightly and mismatched against the surrounding period properties they contribute towards the poor upkeep of the area with regard to litter and rubbish due to poor site management and lack of care. The area also has a bad reputation with regards to anti-social behaviour and i believe by introducing more "affordable" housing this will only make matters worse.

A mult-storey block next to the listed and beautifully renovated SLWS station would be seriously detrimental to both its setting, the station itself, and the fine victorian townscape that embraces it. City of Culture and this is how we treat our best heritage assets?

Representation Summary:

I think a multi-storey block next to the listed and beautifully renovated SLWS station is a monstrous idea. It will undoubtedly destroy the perfect Victorian townscape which surrounds it. The scale of 7 floors is quite unacceptable. Certainly it will damage our chances of winning City of Culture. Oh for some decent planning in the area.

The permission for HS/DS/09/00133 - for which the criteria in 6.262 were not applied - having lapsed, the designation of CLB1 as a site allocated for residential redevelopment should be rescinded. a) Development on the scale posited in CLB1 would be incompatible with the criteria of HN1 - with the necessary addition of HN5 (see other comments). b) The site is already in "the most densely populated part of the borough" - 6.252.

Representation Summary:

These proposals do great damage to the experiencing of the built environment of Southwater Valley. Highrise flats would be a crass intrusion into Victorian St Leonards and represent a significant loss of amenity. They are at odds with NPPF para60 seeking to reinforce local distinctiveness.

On the other site of the Convent, White Rock Gardens is not even listed as an open space of townwide significance (Policy EN5c) though it is beside the Pier, soon to be again a major attraction of the Borough. This is hopelessly incoherent unless it is entirely intentional. Either way it is unacceptable.

Representation Summary:

This is another case of heritage vandalism which hardly anybody is aware of. Its impact on the townscape will be totally incongrious to the setting of the 1851-1852 William Tress Station which is one of St Leonards unrecognised treasures. Why destroy 2 beautifully placed victorian houses, with a sprawling block?
