I support the proposal to designate the area of land in the Upper Ore Valley (Speckled Wood) as Local Green Space, as this is a welcome step towards the campaign to protect the whole of Speckled Wood. I would prefer to see the 3 areas identified for development also included in the Local Green Space area. This would allow the whole of the woodland valley to remain in its current form. Over 1,300 people signed a petition to save Speckled Wood in July last year. A great opportunity.
Please do not allow this wonderful green space to vanish for ever.

The wood is well used, can be enhanced further; it could become part of the Hastings Greenway. Local people and wildlife deserve local green space.

Representation Summary:

Speckled Wood in Ore is a well supported and important area of urban green space that should be retained to protect wildlife habitat in an area of high density housing. Local people use the footpaths and enjoy the tranquil ambience of the woodland. It has huge potential to be enhanced further. The Greenway link is routed through it.

I support the proposal to designate the area of land in the Upper Ore Valley (Speckled Wood) as Local Green Space. This is a welcome step toward the Ore CLT aims to see the whole of Speckled Wood protected from development and used as a community woodland and open space. There is very considerable support for this in the local area and beyond. Over 1300 people signed a petition to this effect in 2012. The area has very little accessible open space and is a high density area. Many people use the woodland for recreation and animal habitat needs protection.

Whilst we support the proposal to designate an area of land in the Upper Ore Valley, we would like areas CV01, CV03 and CV04 to be included as possible LNR or Local Green Space status (Speckled Wood). We are currently working with other community groups and HBC to achieve this aim. The Wood is used by many local residents and school groups due to its unique biodiversity and wildlife habitat. Overwhelming support from over 1300 local residents is also key to promoting the whole of this ghyllside valley for future residents to enjoy.

Speckled Wood is a piece of countryside in a built up area. Its loss woulde be a tragedy for both humans and wild creatures. I have memories of blackberrying there with my grandfather and also using the adjacent play area - long gone. The footpaths are well used and it is a joy to be away from traffic noise. Also a section of the proposed Hastings Greenway route is planned to pass through the wood.

This piece of land is the only green space in this already over-populated area (Upper Ore Valley). OCLT has worked tirelessly for over a decade to make this a pleasant space for the community of Ore. It has the potential to become a beautiful sanctuary, play area, and walkway, and is already home to a host of beautiful wildlife including badgers, foxes, owls ad bats. I would like to keep the whole of the valley preserved and not to have pockets eroded by building development.

The wood is already being used by local people who use the footpaths and enjoy the peace of the woodland and the stream that runs through it. It would be marvellous to be able to provide a village green for Ore Village together with a children's play space, and a section of the route for the planned Hastings Greenway from the town centre to Ore.
