This is unjustified in its narrow view of the tourist potential to the west of the pier. It is time the Council included St Leonards in its tourism strategy. Visitors who appreciate the Jerwood Gallery are also likely to appreciate the architecture, and landscaping of Burtons' St Leonards, and the antique shops of lower St Leonards and art galleries along Marine Court. Marketing could create a 'string of pearls' of cultural places to visit, from Eastbourne's Towner Gallery, to the De La Warr pavilion at Bexhill, to Burtons' St Leonards along to the Jerwood and than on to Rye.
This is unjustified in its narrow view of the tourist potential to the west of the pier, It is time the Council included St Leonards in its tourism strategy [the Information centre sells a postcard with a map of the town that ends at the pier]. Similarly, although St Leonards beach is more regularly rated excellent or good than Pelham beach, - in fact, just this week it received its second MCS award for excellence this year - it is never advertised to visitors, there is no information on it on the Council website, and it is not provided with 'family friendly' features.
Visitors of the type to appreciate the Jerwood Gallery are also likely to appreciate the architecture, town planning and landscaping of Burtons' St Leonards, and the antique shops of lower St Leonards and burgeoning art galleries along Marine Court.
Inclusion in this aims of this paragraph would also be consonant with para 2.49 [Hastings and Rother Councils' shared approach], as marketing could create a 'string of pearls' of cultural places to visit, from Eastbourne's Towner Gallery, to the De La Warr pavilion at Bexhill, to Burtons' St Leonards, along to the Jerwood and then on to Rye
