There is NOTHING in Appendix B that indicates the boundaries that define ancient woodland/SSSIs/SNCIs/local nature reserves and this is unacceptable. Natural England expressed concerns about this issue in 2008 and there is no evidence that the planners have taken any of their advice on board. This is a serious omission within this consultation.

New development work can provide the opportunity for enhancing the green network - particulary when upgrading work is being undertaken. Upgrading proposals as part of a re-development "Masterplan" for a Holiday Park can include environmental improvements, creation of new wildlife habitat areas, increasing biodiversity, and generally improving the Holidaymakers experience. The overall appearance of a park and the style of holiday accommodation can all be enhanced together with creating additional wildlife conservation areas for the benefit of all parties. Many holiday parks participate in the David Bellamy Conservation Award which demonstrates commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural world.

Consider developing derelict areas, areas of brownfield sites, more suitable sites rather than clogging up an already congested area which is,on most accounts, meant to be the top of Hastings and a more rural environment with St Helens Woods and the fields backing onto Rother land.A little piece of nature in an 'urban' environment has a huge calming, peaceful tranquillity about it and should not be destroyed. There are many suitable sites in our borough but backgardens along The Ridge amongst other areas and green spaces such as Robsack,Hawthorn Road,Fern Road,Sandrock etc should not be included and should be given the respect they deserve.

The paper maps I have for appendix B are too small to see exact boundary route so will reserve a comment until proper scale maps are produced at exhibitions and on paper publications.

At Hawthorn Road
The Parcel of Land the eastern side of Hawthorn Road is the most unstable land in the South of England Almost solid Fairlight Clay down to the Purbeck bedrock with many underground spring lines leading out of the Sandstone Buttresses east of the site. The Sandstone Buttress Escarpment area is the home of some very rare protected Species of wildlife. The western perimeter of the Site is the home of large populations of Slowworms. There was a very active Social Group of Badgers resident on this parcel of land.

1. The Council has received very recently an illegally presented Planning Application and processed it as normal (NO WILDLIFE/ECOLOGICAL SURVEY) A legal Requirement. The Position of the new house is at the Southern end of the Parcel of land

2. Next door, 10 Houses built on footings that have never received any Planning Approval. Built 4 stories high depriving Neighbours of their Human rights to privacy in their garden areas.

3. The Badgers that lived in several setts (six) originally have been excluded from sett after sett until we can see only one large Sett mainly based in the Escarpment. The Owners even moved the fence lines in order that they could apply to exclude badgers. The Whole Campaign of wildlife eradication was most irregular and very cruel. NO correct approach to Native Reptile welfare. No thought for the future welfare of the very rare colonies of Mining Bees. NO thought for safe access to the remaining badger setts; foraging and fresh water supplies where are they?

4. Park Lane and Hastings Borough Council are failing in their respective legal duties.

5. There are a number of Witnesses who can be contacted.

I paid a visit to Hawthorn Road on the 31St of March 2012 and took a collection of Photographs.

The photographs demonstrate very clearly that the owners of this site are deliberately flouting all the wildlife welfare legal obligations as follows: -

1. Safe access to sett entrances, because of badger sett destruction more than 5 setts were involved over a period of three years. The badgers are now forced to live in setts in the escarpment that on careful inspection stretch probably more than 7Ometers along the escarpment. The badgers have made full use of the Combe Deposit between the Sandstone Buttresses, taking over the little cave like voids that the Whiskered Bats used; the escarpment is very steep and treacherous and could not be considered as safe access to sett entrances.

2. Where is the source of fresh water supplies for badgers or other creatures on
this parcel of land?

3. It is the responsibility of the owner of a parcel of land to ensure the continuing welfare; such as a safe sustainable habitat is readily available to all protected species of wildlife that were and are resident on the property.

After careful thought I will not be including copies of the photographs on the grounds that you will be focusing on ensuring that what has taken place on site after site across Hastings stops and the continuing gross undetected cruel practices become just abhorrent memories. Naturally I will furnish you with details if you write and ask for them. I will be writing to M's Karen Phillips with the information I gained at Hawthorn Road.
