Hastings Local Development Framework - Core Strategy Informal Consultaton 27 June - 8 August 2011

Representation ID: 2006

Received: 04/08/2011

Representation Summary:

There should be further emphasis on the need for a high quality public realm (including access to historic sites and buildings) and a commitment to seek to enhance and promote the historic environment of Hastings, which is clearly an international draw (eg. Hastings Castle). In the same way as there is a section on Public Art (which is good) there could be a similar one for heritage assts playing an 'important role in enhancing local distinctiveness and sense of place' (para 6.31). Further reference could also be made to current Government guidance on streetscape including Manual for Streets Volumes 1&2.

Representation Summary:

Community facilities here does not include any cultural facilities such as museums, art galleries and theatres. Nor does it mention the evening economy.

Theatres and the 'arts' are a big source of employment and income generating activity. However, their vital role in the economic development of town centres is not recognised.

Need to highlight that social, cultural and community activities, other than open space, sport and recreation, also underpin people's quality of life.
