Hastings Local Development Framework - Core Strategy Informal Consultaton 27 June - 8 August 2011

Representation Summary:

Another promise that needs to be kept - much of the recent development gives scant regard to neighbouring architecture or design..too many featureless concrete blocks of flats - how is that Rye/Battle/Lewes have been able to maintain the character of their towns whilst Hastings is becoming the concrete capital of the South East? Is it because developers know they will get away with any old rubbish they put before the planning committee? Makes you wonder......

Representation Summary:

Hastings is particularly unique due to it's topography & architecture. There has been insufficient regard paid in many cases to urban design & a sensitivity to the local landform or socila groups. This must be addressed.

Because good design applies not just to housing dwellings but also to its contextual location (the urban fabric) CABE SPACE have now developed evidence-based design guidelines for better Urban Design.

The Hastings Greenway project (HGP) has adopted many of these design guidelines, which include identifying local needs and local assets, and developing sustainable site specific solutions that help to enhance a sense of place.
