Specialist retirement housing meets a number of emerging Core Strategy aims. Owner Occupied Retirement Housing and Assisted Living Close Care: -brings older people closer to transport links, local shops and services and reduces car dependency; frees up the housing chain; reduces under occupation and retains and enhances needed family housing; more opportunities for efficient provision of local care services eg GP services, reduces the need for respite care; offers a supportive setting with close family, neighbours and house manager and makes optimum use of centrally located brownfield sites. The policy should be more positive towards such sustainable development.
