I support informal play. There are many outstanding informal areas, which children have played for generations. Among these are the beach, sea, West Hill and West Hill rocks. All these areas should be recognised as part of the uniqueness of Hastings. Each should be enhanced and enriched. They must be accessible by bike and walking. There is too few places where the beach can be safely accessed. The sea must be clean, the beach must be spotless and should have masses of 'play' there, right on the beach- beach ball, paddling pools, a skateboard ramp and a multitude of other attractions.

A strong 'sense of place' would be a result of the above approach (PA 31) and the traffic calmed areas would give parents confidence to let their children play outside. This would lead to community cohesion.

A preliminary appraisal of the development of our client's site at land at Breadsell Farm included the improvement of Children's Play Provision at Mare Bay Close.

This policy is in total disarray, the planners are not insisting on the provision or contributions from developers. There needs to be a Borough-wide programme and plan of need.
