There is no mention of improving pedestrian access to housing/retail/leisure or industrial developments (either existing or in the future), across the town to enable and encourage people to experience the health benefits and enjoyment of walking. This should be recognised and part of every design brief.

Whilst generally supporting objectives 10 & 11, they both fail to mention the benefits of equestrianism and the provision of safe off road riding facilties. This could easily be achieved by considering equestrian use of some cycle/footpaths. Horse riding is an activity taken up by many people on a regular basis and is known to have a positive impact on physical and mental well being.

In addition, create a Borough-wide network of cycle-lanes and cycle-priority routes so as to encourage increase in cycling based commuting and travel to and from schools and colleges.

We support the development of Pebsham country park and the equestrian facilities planned there. Consideration should be given to safe access links for all users including equestrians from the town outskirts. Support increased take up of sports such as horse riding by liasing with the two local riding schools. Interaction with horses is of proven benefit to children with disabilities, both mentally & physically, or who have been disadvantaged & may be suffer from poor self esteem. Teenage girls who are particularly difficult to engage in sports are more likely to participate in equestrian activity.

One important sports and leisure pursuit not considered by HBC in the consultation is horse riding. ESCC have planned good facilities for horse riders, cyclists and walkers to share at the future Pebsham Countryside Park. HBC should follow this lead and make as many paths and public open spaces as possible multi user. Horse riding is an activity popular with young women who are a difficult group to encourage to exercise. Safe off road riding would encourage increased take-up of this important sport, leisure and cultural activity by residents and visitors.

Sustrans requests attention is paid to access to Pebsham Country Park from the to be built Connect2. The existing bridge at Bridge Way can be upgraded with wheeling ramps to allow cycle access and links to a signalised crossing of the A259 followed by a link past the redundant pavillion into the south side of the park.

Pebsham Countryside Park is a destination facility, not a community one. What facilities will it offer for young people? The cycle track is very on message but of limited benefit to the population as a whole. One improved and upgraded sports complex for the whole town is a pathetic under provision.

There is a lot of vague commitment to sport and leisure, but if you want to get young people off the streets and cut down on their drinking you need a serious policy to provide them with facilities. Active Hastings does some good work but none in Central St Leonards. There are no "multi-sport cages" and with the exception of St Nicks and Respond at Silchester Mews, no youth facilities. (The YMCA is Bohemia, not Central St Leonards). There should be provision for young people to gather in the warm and dry and safety to pursue their interests.

Whilst generally supporting objectives 10 & 11, they both FAIL to mention the benifits of equestrianism and the provision of safe off road riding facilities. This could easily be achieved by considering equestrian use of some cycle/footpaths. Horse riding is an activity taken up by many people, including adults and children both abled and disabled, and is known to have positive impact on physical and metal well being. Equestrians have just the same rights as cyclists when it comes to safety, the roads today are too overcrowded and unable to cope with horses. An equal opportunity to enjoy leisure time the same as any other activity is all we are asking

The extension of the seafront cycle path from Robertson Street to the Old Town should be a priority and a committment to ensure that shared pedestrian cycleways are created in the town centre and the park
